Refinance your home at new low interest rates, buy a boat, enjoy sunny winter sailing? Yes, it is all possible. If you have equity in your home, why not refinance it at the new low interest rates and get the boat of your dreams?
This 41 foot sailboat is turn key for world cruising. She is easily lived aboard with all modern conveniences, and she is the best equipped boat on the market. Everything you can imagine to make your cruising life comfortable and fun, and secure. Over 100,000 was put into her in 2004 to renew her systems and make her world capable and independent. She has been impeccably maintained and improved way beyond the already stringent manufacturing standards of this famous design. Bob Perry with whom I consulted in my buying search told me of the Sceptre: “I wish I had designed it.”
You owe it to yourself to see this boat. She is currently moored in front of the owner’s condo in Puerto Vallarta where she can be test sailed. The dock is available for the buyer; moorage is also available near Seattle, Wa if you prefer. See details at: http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1984/Sceptre-Pilothouse-1983029/Puerto-Vallarta/Mexico.

WRITE, PUBLISH, AND SELL YOUR BOOK
WHILE CRUISING MEXICO
PART ONE
by
Doug Danielson
Early this year (2008) my good friend and fellow writer, David Lyons, (author of Mexico’s Hidden Gold and Riding Guts ‘n’ Glory) was responsible for heading up the Puerto Vallarta Writers Conference. The keynote speaker was Dan Poynter and the subject was “Self Publishing.”
Those of us who were serious about getting published came away from the conference with a whole new mind set on self publishing. Up until then, we had been led to believe that if you self published your work you would never get a contract from a traditional bricks and mortar publisher. There was even a name for it “vanity publishing,” because going the traditional route meant finding an agent and making submittals–a frustrating, time-consuming process—a process that supposedly separated the “serious writers” from the “wannabes.” In other words: If you really had talent, you would be discovered by a Literary Agent and your work would rise to the top of the slush pile.
Baloney! Some of us may never live that long. Unless you are a celebrity, involved in a scandal, or are a notorious criminal, the traditional publishers don’t want you. They could care less about your literary masterpiece or exceptional writing skills because they are only looking for an author who can write something that will sell over a million copies.
Fortunately (for those of us who have talent and aren’t getting any younger), we learned that many “serious writers,” people who write well and should be published, are now bypassing the traditional route. And, there are many forms of self publishing to choose from. Some are very expensive; you have to spend a lot of money up front and do the warehousing, distribution and promotion all yourself, just like any other publisher.
This works particularly well for people who are entrepreneurs, give lectures, and their books are non fiction and instructional. If you are successful, the profits are high, much better than the royalties you would normally get from a traditional house.
For a fiction writer, the cheaper option is to …

Vallarta Yacht Club’s (VYC’s) seminar “Horror Stories from the Bilge” presented by Captain Doug Danielson reawakened awareness among boat owners about just how devastating the consequences can be us when we neglect the subtle deterioration of our vessels systems. Consequences ranged from a vessel burning to total loss within the slip to nearly sinking at sea. Causes of these major consequences were placed on such apparently small neglects as leaving one bad battery in an otherwise good bank of batteries (fire with total loss), or having an exhaust elbow rusting out in an area that ended up flooding the vessel, or bilge debris, or a sundry of other inconspicuous haunts.

Solutions to preventing these horrors were simple: Frequent inspections (even of the difficult to get to areas) & preventive maintenance. Remember, even stainless steel (hose clamps, heat exchangers, etc.) corrode, especially at welds (more common when incorrect welding rods are used).
Vallarta Yacht club seminars, the first six sponsored by BoatMexico, are held on Mondays at the club house next to Paradise
Village in Nuevo Vallarta. Admission is free. Lunch is available from the club’s very reasonable and ample menu. The setting is casual & tranquil with lots of nice people. The next scheduled seminar at a VYC is scheduled for next Monday and will be presented by Mexican attorney, Laura Joachin. It will be on “Legal Aspects of Living and Boating in
Mexico.” For more information and directions, see the Events Calendar at BoatMexico.com.

Fishing Report for Week of November 12, 2008 for BoatMexico
Written By: Stan Gabruk
High Season is upon us and you can just feel it in the air. Maybe it’s the returning of the Seasonal Residents as they reappear in the marina after a summer in cooler locations. The breeze in the day is now cooler and the days aren’t so intense. Another way to know the season is upon us the annual Gourmet Festival and of course or World Famous Pez Vela Tournament. This year marks the 53rd Torneo Internacional de Marlin y Pez Vela!
For the last week boats have been preparing. Changing line, changing oil, tuning up the motors, rigging new lures, you name it. It looks like we’ll have close to eighty boats in the tournament this year.
Tonight Nov. 12 is the Captain’s Meeting where if you haven’t paid your entry fee, it’s time to pay up. Lot’s of booths, free stuff like T-shirts, etc. Food, Cervesas and of course a great group of guys. This is the premier fishing tournament in Puerto Vallarta and it swings a lot of weight in the area. With Cash and Cars on the line and everyone out to win, the competition amazingly stays friendly.
For the group of guys that fish these sorts of tournaments, it’s small group and world indeed. Many will have fished the Bisbee’s in Cabo just a few short weeks ago. Others come in from points all over the map, but it’s a tight nit group that will run the globe like this for fishing tournaments.
The tournament in my opinion always falls for some reason close to or on the Full Moon phase of the month. Now why this isn’t scheduled during a week before or after is amazing to me, but there you are. If you’re hoping to use your Yellowfin Tuna super senses, you’ll have to do it early in the morning. The tournament itself starts at 07:00 and you have to be back at dock before 6:00 P.M. Of course unless you have a hook up and you call it in. After the first day, the boats can leave anytime after Midnight. For those I’ve spoken with, the strategy is to take off early, around 3:00 a.m. be at El Banco before sun up, hoping to hook into a nice Yellowfin Monster over 200 lbs. With the way the Yellowfin have been running, this could be a tournament winner. The participating anglers will have two chances to hit the morning bite hard. But no chance to get the afternoon or evening bite with the return time being just before sunset. That is unless you’ve got a go-fast boat. Not many of those in this tournament, never are!
Those in the tournament will flock to locations like El Banco and Corbetena. Unless you’re the first few out there, it’ll look like a bunch of tanks at the Battle of the Bulge. Once there are too many boats in one place, they, the fish, go deep. So then it’s off to their secret spots for the participating anglers, sounders at the ready! But El Banco and Corbetena the last few days have seen their share of Black Marlin, Large Mahi Mahi and of course Sailfish. I can picture the protest coming in now.
North of Punta Mita there have been many Mahi Mahi. They’re set up camp there and are thick. This has inturn attracted Bill Fish, but not just Sailfish. Marlin love Mahi Mahi and if they lived longer when being trolled, it would be preferred bait. Hit the Punta Mita point, set a heading of 280 to 310 and anything is possible once you’re ten miles out. I’m sure there will be several boats fishing this area this week.
Capt. Chema this week was zigging when everyone else was Zagging and came in with this nice 350 lb Black Marlin. Roger Meaden boated this beauty and it’s his first Marlin. What makes this Marlin something to talk about is that is was boated in front of Chimo. This spot is about ten miles south of Cabo Corrientes (the southern point of the bay). Capt Chema ran a Google eyes and purple lures. Soon there were double hook-ups and screaming reels! Since I figure nobody in the tournament will be reading this article until after the tournament, I’m not giving away any useable secrets! Good Luck in the Tournament Capt. Chema ….
If you’re looking for Dog Tooth Snapper, Corbetena this past week was the place to be. I’m amazed at how many people never even think of this option. If the Sails are fickle, the Yellowfin are lazy and the Marlin are grouchy, Snapper is always available….
The Bay itself has been a little on the normal side. Nothing spectacular, but you can have a great day with smaller Skip Jack Tuna, Jack Crevells, Rooster fish, Mackerel, Mahi chickens, and more. The Marietta Islands are always a great location to visit and it’s always consistently producing game fish. If you’re looking for a shorter day but would still like a Billfish, this is the place to be. Again, lots of Mahi Mahi, so in come the Sailfish.
If you’re in town and you’re lucky enough to read this article, come on down to Marina Vallarta and see the weigh-in. It all starts as boats come in around 3:30 p.m. and on. You can see the daily winner and be part of the action Nov. 13th, 14th and 15th.
Well that’s it for this week amigos. Until next week, don’t forget to kiss your fish!

BE SAFER AND DO AS THE U.S. COAST GUARD RECOMMENDS: FILE A FLOAT PLAN! BoatMexico makes it convenient. Your fellow boaters are advised that you are overdue, but not until a time lapse selected by you, the skipper, decide is reasonable leeway for routine delays. In fact, BoatMexico gives you two levels of alerts. With the Amber Alert that occurs after your initial pad to your ETA, your fellow boaters are just advised that you are OVERDUE. Then, after your chosen additional pad for a serious alert, they are advised with a Red Alert that you are SERIOUSLY OVERDUE, and your contingency emergency email is sent to your chosen contact person with your instructions on what action you want them to take.
Emergency Loft even allows a member who is warm and cozy ashore, but gets a radio message or otherwise hears about a crew in need of assistance to post the Amber or Red Alert without Trip Tracker. You know there’s somebody overdue who didn’t file a float plan? Post it! You know that somebody went out fishing in their dinghy for the day and didn’t come back? Post it! You know that there are a lot of fishing nets in an area and they are not marked or lit? Post an Amber Alert - let you fellow boaters know.
