I know that Puerto Vallarta is not the most convenient place for a lot of people to buy a boat (but it’s not a bad place to keep one for great winter sailing!). All through deck side stay passages were accomplished using a large epoxy filled & drilled passage. You won’t have any leaks into your cored deck on this boat from side stay strains. Each side stay is fitted with a much larger than normal base plate to prevent deck damage.

Each keel bolt is fitted with huge stainless steel backing plates, not simply fender washers. Each SS Backing plate is fitted with a large stud terminal and linked with large cable to the grounding system to prevent keel bolt deterioration.

The deck has real non-skid, not the gelcoat molded non-skid that smooths out and can leave the crew with feet sliding toward the open ocean. She has an attractive and effective TreadMaster non-skid deck.

$100,000 refit was done in 2004, and more refreshing done in 2008. She was hauled in Dec. 2008 and has a fresh bottom with tropical bottom paint. Over $2,000 of Engine spares including spare injector, exhaust elbow, shutdown solenoid, and special gaskets among other major parts. Her stainless hardware inventory rivals a marine store! The SailRite sewing machine is like new, used only a couple times.

Many yachts are advertised as “ready to cruise”, but are they really? This one has everything you could possible dream of. She has loads of spare zincs, high end scuba gear, shallow water compressor/regulator for bottom cleanings or fun, 2 folding bicycles, 2 inflatable kayaks, and even such simple things at 10 cans of spare wax, bottles and bottles of boat cleaner, and even the most respected severe weather drogue.

This Sceptre is so well done and complete that another Sceptre owner wants to sell his Sceptre 41 which has not yet been prepared and would never be prepared like ENTELECHY is, and then buy ENTELECHY. Sure, why not? He can get the about the same amount of money for his Sceptre as what ENTELECHY will cost him, and he won’t have to spend a year and $100,000 more to begin to equip her. Early this year (2008) my good friend and fellow writer, David Lyons, (author of Mexico’s Hidden Gold and Riding Guts ‘n’ Glory) was responsible for heading up the Puerto Vallarta Writers Conference. The keynote speaker was Dan Poynter and the subject was “Self Publishing.”

Those of us who were serious about getting published came away from the conference with a whole new mind set on self publishing. Up until then, we had been led to believe that if you self published your work you would never get a contract from a traditional bricks and mortar publisher. There was even a name for it “vanity publishing,” because going the traditional route meant finding an agent and making submittals–a frustrating, time-consuming process—a process that supposedly separated the “serious writers” from the “wannabes.” In other words: If you really had talent, you would be discovered by a Literary Agent and your work would rise to the top of the slush pile.

Baloney! Some of us may never live that long. Unless you are a celebrity, involved in a scandal, or are a notorious criminal, the traditional publishers don’t want you. They could care less about your literary masterpiece or exceptional writing skills because they are only looking for an author who can write something that will sell over a million copies.

Fortunately (for those of us who have talent and aren’t getting any younger), we learned that many “serious writers,” people who write well and should be published, are now bypassing the traditional route. And, there are many forms of self publishing to choose from. Some are very expensive; you have to spend a lot of money up front and do the warehousing, distribution and promotion all yourself, just like any other publisher.

Vallarta Yacht Club’s (VYC’s) seminar “Horror Stories from the Bilge” presented by Captain Doug Danielson reawakened awareness among boat owners about just how devastating the consequences can be us when we neglect the subtle deterioration of our vessels systems. Consequences ranged from a vessel burning to total loss within the slip to nearly sinking at sea. Causes of these major consequences were placed on such apparently small neglects as leaving one bad battery in an otherwise good bank of batteries (fire with total loss), or having an exhaust elbow rusting out in an area that ended up flooding the vessel, or bilge debris, or a sundry of other inconspicuous haunts.

Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC) launched the 2008-2009 season Saturday, November 8th. Festivities began at 1100 (Vallarta Time) at the club’s home facility which is located next to Paradise Village Mall, in Paradise Marina , Nuevo Vallarta.

VYC Commodore, John Moore, introduced the Junior Sailing Program children who gathered to hoist the flags to set the season in motion.

The Priest and officers then departed in the decorated panga for the chistening of the fleet ceromony.

Junior sailing coach Maria Elena and Mike Danielson, Director of On the Water Activities, awarded the juniors their sailing awards.

The Junior Program Fund Raising dinner began at 6 p.m. with an estimated 200 diners. A raffle was held and then a fun auction of donated articles followed and was enthusiastically received, thanks to the talented and humorous auctioneer, Mike Gowan.

The 2008-2009 VYC season promises to be a fun and well attended one, despite the economic challenges facing the world. Members of VYC are fun spirited and generously give to the community. BE SAFER AND DO AS THE U.S. COAST GUARD RECOMMENDS: FILE A FLOAT PLAN! BoatMexico makes it convenient.
