It’s A Mixed Bag at Our Famous Fishing Grounds Right Now!
It’s snowing in Austin, Houston and New Orleans! I was watching the news this morning after putting the daily charters out and was amazed at what I was seeing. It’s hard to believe winter is here when it’s so darn beautiful here in Puerto Vallarta. People are shopping, getting tans and going fishing!
I keep heari...

Fishing Report for Nov. 26, 2008

The Roosters are Back, There’s something to Crow About!
For the last few months I’ve been scratching my head wondering where the Rooster fish had taken off to. When you own a fishing charter company like I do, there are always those fish that will save the day when for some reason nothing else will hit. By this I mean Rooster fish, Jack Crevells and other...

Fishing Report for Week of November 12, 2008 for BoatMexico

High Season is upon us and you can just feel it in the air. Maybe it’s the returning of the Seasonal Residents as they reappear in the marina after a summer in cooler locations. The breeze in the day is now cooler and the days aren’t so intense. Another way to know the season is upon us the annual Gourmet Festival and of course or World Famous Pez Vela Tournament. This year marks the 5...

Fishing Report for Week of October 15, 2008 for Master Baiter’s Sportfishing and Tackle
Written By: Stan Gabruk
It’s a Moving Target Out There Right Now
When you think of fishing in Puerto Vallarta (PV) you think of three places primarily: El Banco, Corbetena and within the Bay of Bandaras. It’s understandable since most charters are going to head out towards those places. It’s almost automatic. This is what I would call the conventional, local...

Now that the Hurricane Norbert has passed Puerto Vallarta by we see that the fish have been pushed into the area and if you can name a particular favorite fish, it’s probably out there for you right now!
That’s right folks, if you’re in the game for Black or Blue Marlin, then Corbetena and El Banco are where you have to be amigo. Both spots are hooking into Blacks like a machine in the 350 lb to 800 lb range at the moment. Hit the high spots first in the morning then graduall...

Fishing Report for Oct. 9 2008 for Boat Mexico. Written by Stan Gabruk of Master Baiter’s Sportfishing and Tackle
A strong dollar and a bay full of fish, makes PV the place to be!
When it comes to fishing, especially in Puerto Vallarta where we’re famous for our productive fishing grounds, the glass is always half-empty or half-full, depending on your state of mind. Here in Puerto Vallarta, we’re all a lot jaded because for us, a two hundred pound Yellowfin Tuna is com...

Fishing Report for Boat Mexico: Week of Sept 22, 2008
Talk about an interesting couple of weeks here in Puerto Vallarta when it comes to fishing, the Monster Yellowfin Tuna have finally come in. The possibility of boating one over two hundred pounds right now just got hundred times better! That’s not to say I guarantee you’ll boat a beauty in the 200 lb range, but I would say your chances are better now than they were a week ago
Corbetena ...

Fishing Report for Wk of Sept. 14 2008 for Master Baiter’s Sportfishing and Tackle
Written By: Stan Gabruk
I’ve been in Puerto Vallarta for several years now, long enough to know what’s normal and what isn’t. This year has been the most abnormal year I’ve ever seen since opening Master Baiter’s. When it comes to Yellowfin Tuna, you can normally expect to see football Tuna in the mid June time frame with larger Yellowfin in the 100 pound plus range by mi...

It’s a Homecoming for Mahi Mahi and Marlin, and you’re invited!
Every year I have a list of clients that are waiting for me to send them an Email letting them know it’s time to make their hotel reservations when the Monsters or Giant Yellowfin Tuna over 200 lbs arrive. So far this year, we’re well past the mid July time frame when we start to see them. Usually by mid August we’re seeing Monsters everywhere, yet it’s now early Sep...

Well, even though it’s not September yet, Marina Vallarta has that feel to it. The Mexican and North American kids are all back in school now and you can see a noticeable reduction in the number of people cruising the Marina Vallarta stores and restaurants. It’s funny, just when the fishing gets down-right serious here in Puerto Vallarta (PV), the people leave. Everyone, that is, except the serious Anglers that come to boat a Finned Fantasy. But like you’d expect, the number o...
