Here is an example of how I went about forecasting weather today for the Pacific Coast of Mexico. We begin by looking at the big picture. For this we use the GRIB files.

Meters per Second to Knots
Weather reports such a Buoy Reports may give wind speed in meters per second (m/s). To approximate the windspeed in Knots: multipy m/s by 2. More precisely: 1 Meter per Second = 1.9438444924406046 Knots
Find Miles per Hour (MPH) or Statue Miles (sm) from Knots (K) or Nautical Miles (nm)
To find approx. Miles per Hour (MPH) or Miles, mulitiply Knots (or Nautical Miles) by 1.15
1 Knot = 1.1507794480235425 Miles per Hour
1 Nautical Mile = 1.15 Statute Miles
