Guide to Trip Tracker

Welcome to Trip Tracker.
WHAT IS IT?
Trip Tracker (TT) uses the information from your stored boat profile and from a newly filed float plan to create alerts if you are overdue at your destination. You set the amount of safe extra time for you to arrive. If you don't arrive & cancel your plan, by the two types of alerts can be generated, including an automatic custom email to your emergency contact if the Red Alert results.

AMBER & RED ALERTS
An Amber Alert notifies that you are "OVERDUE", thus prompting others to consider that you may be having trouble, or just running late. You select the numbers of days after your ETA before activation will occur.

A Red Alert says that you are "SERIOUSLY OVERDUE". A custom email is sent from your email address to the emergency contact email address that you provide in your Trip Tracker float plan. You should inform your emergency contact in advance what action you would want him/her to take if this message is received. You can include these instructions in your custom email.

UPDATING & CANCELING ALERT NOTICES
Members who obtain information on your situation can update the alert in the alert notice's comments section. . ONLY YOU can cancel the alert and you need Internet access to do so. It is essential that you put one of your destinations that has internet service as the final destination. Remember to cancel your Trip Tracker when you arrive and before the alert trigger date to avoid false alerts. Be sure to read the Terms of Use of this site and how they apply to Trip Tracker.

KEEP YOUR NORMAL MEANS OF GETTING ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE
Remember that Trip Tracker is an additional tool to use for emergency notification. You should Never rely on just one method of notification, but use it to augment your safety plan. EPIRB's, radios, phoned plans to contacts, signals, etc., should all still be used.

GETTING STARTED
To get started, choose "My Boat Profiles" and enter your vessel's data. This is data that isn't likely to change frequently and will be stored and used for each of your trips in this vessel. You can always update the information, but there's no need to re-enter it each time.

Next, "Add a Trip Tracker". This is the specific float plan for the trip you are about to take. Fill in the information on the form, select the number of days to wait after your ETA for each of the alert types, update your emergency contact email address & message, and then select whether you want your trip's information always visible, or only in the event of an alert. Submit your Trip Tracker and then remember to cancel it before the date you've told it to create the alerts (ETA+wait time).

HOW ALERT INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED
When an alert occurs, it is put in either Amber or Red type at the top right of nearly every page on BoatMexico. Moving the mouse over the top of an alert
